G008 rare 1940s China Republic Central Mint Tael  Gold coin L&M-1072, PCGS MS61.
Central Mint gold ingot was commonly known as “Yellow fish” during the Republic period in the 40s.  In the 1940s the Chinese currency seriously inflated and fiat money devaluation.  To curb inflation the Government started to sell gold, holding gold deposit, withdraw legal tender, tame prices. In August 1945, the gold deposits coming due, the Government ordered the Central Mint production of gold in order to meet the needs of gold to cash. The Central Mint imported raw gold bar from the United States to mint the gold ingot in one mace, 2 mace, 5 mace, one tael, 3 tael, 5 tael and 10 tael sizes.  After the founding of new China, mainland China retained factory will be reclaimed by the Bank that doesn't melt, but there is also a bar of melted into jewelry, today's Republic of Central Mint production of gold bars number surviving is very rare.
