Two crude Chinese characters - Ban Liang ("Half an ounce"), no rims or other marks / Blank, no rims. Unfiled edges. 18mm, 1.1 grams. Hartill # very small coins of variable weight were made under the very late Zhou dynasty - they are local issues, of fine quality and might belong either to the late "Warring States" period or the early Qin period. All these coins are quite rare! These are not later "elm-seed" ban-liangs - those coins are quite different and much more (778 BC-207 BC) was a Chinese feudal state that existed during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods of Chinese history. It emerged as one of the dominant superpowers of the Seven Warring States by the 3rd century BC and eventually united China under its rule in 221 BC, after which it is referred to as the Qin Dynasty.
